- This week our focus of prayer is on Togo, a country in West Africa bordered by Ghana (West),
Benin (East) and Burkina Faso (North). President Faure Gnassingbé and Prime Minister Komi Sélom Klassou
lead one of Africa’s smallest countries, whose estimated population of 7.8 million continues to grow.
While French is the official language, 43 other languages are also spoken. Political and economic
instability are an ongoing problem. More than 300,000 orphans and unwanted children are vulnerable to
human trafficking. Prostitution is common. Many in Togo are involved in voodoo and traditional religions.
Muslims dominate the marketplace and education. Christians make up about 40% of the population
(10% Evangelical). Praise God that national goals to reach every home and plant a church in every
village brought some unity and growth. Many opportunities exist for church planting, discipleship,
education, Bible translation, and ministry to all ages in this open and needy country. Pray that the
older and newer churches will work together to further the gospel and pray for evangelical mission
agencies from surrounding countries to send more workers, with some called to evangelize Muslims.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be
alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
