Wednesday, December 5, 2007, BLF Day of Prayer & Fasting

Dear Friends and Co-workers,

As you think of BLF this week, please pray and praise with us for these items of prayer.
Your participation at the throne is a source of great encouragement to us.

CANADA

Pray for Quebec 2008. Quebec is organizing a huge celebration to commemorate 400 years of the French language in North America. This will be an international event where hundreds of organizations are being invited to Quebec City for the celebrations. Evangelicals are planning to use this event to reach thousands with the message of salvation, with many evangelical groups planning their annual conference in Quebec at this same time in order to participate in this evangelistic effort. BLF will hold its Board meetings in Quebec City during this time as well, and plans to participate in distribution of 5000 N.T. and 350,000 Gospels of John. Pray many will join in this effort to evangelize Quebec City and the surrounding townships. Pray God will prepare the hearts of thousands to be receptive to His Word.

Ron Plett, President of BLF Canada
We would appreciate prayer for the following:

  • Our family Christmas plans, especially with regards to our son Danny, and the struggles that continue to surface in our relationship with him.
  • Our very good friends Tim and Elsie Kroeker, who are proceeding this week with the application of legal guardianship for their 6-year old grandson, whose parents are both not competent or responsible in taking care of him. Pray especially that the judge appointed to the case, will discern the truth.
  • Praise for our new grandson, Ezra, born to Fiona and Steve.  Fiona came down with a high fever following the birth, but is doing much better now.

Mark Larson, BLF Canada board member

  • Praise: Flights confirmed for me and a team from a Saskatchewan church to help transform an old Bible School in Niger into a new training/conference center in February.
  • This past week a long awaited diesel airplane from the U.S. reached the SIMAIR hangar in Niamey, Niger.
  • Nov. 29-Dec. 1 over a thousand people in Grande Prairie were shown the true meaning of Christmas by means of our church's dramatic outdoor tour called "Bethlehem Live."
  • Requests:   Safety and good health during our time in Niger.  I also want to connect with the younger siblings of our two adopted children from there.
  • The Lord's provision for the expansion of our local church as well as a nearby Bible Camp.  Grande Prairie is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada.

EUROPE

Pray for:

  • Nicolas Devins. With Mike Jensen leaving in two weeks, Nicolas, our new printer, is beginning to feel the weight of his new responsibilities.
  • Fred Mondin, our marketing man is leaving next week. His next step is Great Britain and then Bolivia for a few years. May God guide his steps in the years to come. We will all miss him! With Fred and Mike leaving, we desperately need more people to help in various tasks
  • Finances for the the various book projects in process.
  • Nathan Phillips that he would be able to find his support and get here quickly!

Praise:

  • For the harmony and unity of the team... A real pleasure to come to work every day!
  • Roger and Rosemary Saxe are adjusting well. They are doing a great job in the shop - Roger is turning out to be a perfect binder, Rosemary a perfect shipping agent...
  • Five new book titles already completed this year plus two new reprints! Ten new books are in the making for 2008. By Christmas time, the first 5000 New Testament "Parole Vivante" will be in the hands of various missionaries for free distribution.

Bud Kroeker, Belgium

Bud & Char Kroker

Despite delays, the shipment of Sunday School material for the Congo finally left Antwerp the end of November.

Before it left we received word from the shipping company that the road between Douala and Bangui was in such bad condition that they advised delaying sending trucks over that route. This is probably one reason why they were not in a hurry to get the container on a ship sooner. It is the dry season there now, north of the equator, and I hate to think what the road might be like once the heavy rains start. Please continue to pray for the safe arrival of this material at its destination.

Mike & Laura Jensen, Belgium (& US)

  • Praise for Laura's mom (Carole) as she starts new medicine and maintains a sense of humor.
  • Praise the Lord for an affordable and comfortable place to live in CA for us and Carole. Thank you to all who have encouraged us through this time. May you be blessed! We look forward to meeting with you next year.
  • Pray for Mike as he wraps things up in Belgium. Even if we wanted we could not maintain a house in both countries, so pray for His strength, perseverance and wisdom. He will join the family Dec. 18.
  • Pray for Laura as she gets settled in the new house with her mom.
  • Pray for Andrea as she joins us for Christmas, arriving Dec. 15. She will visit her grandma then returns to school January 6.

Walter & Nancy Zurfluh  (West Coast Reps)

  • Praise that Walt has fully recovered from his illness this fall. He is back working at full strength. The dental work is complete and has healed well. Praise for well-qualified physicians who got to the bottom of his health problems. Thank you for your prayers.
  • Praise for two local excellent mission conferences this fall in which we represented BLF. Several students at Azusa Pacific University were very interested in France and spoke some French. Pray for us as we follow up these new contacts. Walt also left BLF informational literature for the principal French teacher at A.P.U.
  • Pray the Lord will open more doors as we represent BLF locally and especially in Northern CA and Oregon next spring. These were meetings in churches which had to be canceled this fall because of Walt's illness.
  • Pray for us and our family that we may fix our attention especially at this time on Jesus Christ whose birthday we celebrate. How easy it is to get caught up in the commercialism of this season. Warm Christmas greetings to the entire BLF family.

Walter & Nancy Zurfluh

Russ and Mary Ann Miller  (Florida Reps)

  • PRAISE for a safe trip in October/November along the east coast all the way to New England, with wonderful visits with supporters and former African co-workers, and the possibility of three teams in 2008 or 2009.
  • PRAY that we’ll be able to make worthwhile contacts with several churches in FL during the winter months.
  • Pray that the remaining four of our team members will soon be confirmed for the April team.

Russ & Mary Ann Miller

Harley & Cathy Fitch, AZ  (Alumni host & hostess)

  • Pray for Harley's visit this week Thursday to the cardiologist. Pray God wisdom for the doctor regarding analysis and treatment. Pray for peace & calm for Harley and Cathy in the face of uncertainty.

Ron & Sharee McMahon, CA  (Ron is a US Board member).

  • Moving from El Cajon to Boise, Idaho. Praise that their house sold and pray for safe travel as they move Dec. 16-17. They will join their married children and grandchild-to-be born April 2008.
  • Also pray that they will have the Lord's leading to find a church in the Boise area after 20 years at Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon.
  • Pray that they can fill their May 1-12, 2008 BLF team; they are looking for 4 additional team members.

Marilyn Matthews  (US Board member emeritus)

  • Praise for the safe arrival today of a new granddaughter, Sara Anneli.  She is the first child for Kari and Michael and has been threatening to arrive since mid-September.  She stayed put for a somewhat scary 11 weeks but mother and baby are doing fine.
  • Praise for the expected gathering of most of our family for Christmas, almost certainly the last one in the home God has given us to enjoy these last five years.  It will be an emotional time and I covet your prayers that we honor Him this season especially.

Marilyn Matthews

US Office

  • Praise God for providing the perfect candidate to fill the receipt-ist position vacated when Michelle left. God sent Sue Gross (classmate from our Koininia Sunday School class) to apply. We are thrilled to have Sue join the team here in the office. Pray for grace as she learns the new position and all that's entailed.
  • Praise God the move to the new office is complete. Our street address is now 370 S. Schmale Rd. Suite 2B Carol Stream, IL 60188. (Our P.O. Box remains the same.) Praise God for all the help to make the move easier. Praise God for our new facilities with plenty of windows.
  • Pray for the fund raising effort to be made in December. Pray the people we contact will be prepared by God.
  • Praise God for the beautiful start to the winter. We had a 2-inch snowfall Saturday morning to remind us (here in Chicago) that this is the month of Christmas. The beauty created by the snowfall is indescribable. Praise God for His amazing beauty all around us; sunrises, sunsets, rainbows, snowfalls, etc.

Harry & Mars Enns

We praise & thank God for all the friends and supporters of BLF.
Without your continued prayer support for this ministry,
