- This week our focus is on Mali. Please pray that President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, and Prime Minister
Modibo Keïta would have divine wisdom to know how to provide health, education and employment to their people. Since 2013,
elections and a new government have brought a peace process to Mali. Still, much division and instability between the north
and south remains following the attempted military coup in the south in 2012. Mali has overcome huge challenges of high child
mortality and malnutrition due to desertification of its land. 20% of children do not survive beyond age five and of those, 1
in 3 will be malnourished.
Although Mali is spiritually open and the church is taking root slowly, its peoples remain mostly unreached (2/3 of Malians are
unevangelized). In a population of 13.3 million, 352,000 consider themselves Christians (including 93,600 evangelicals). Many who
make decisions for Christ eventually return to their former religion. Praise God that around 700 evangelical congregations exist.
However, most congregations today do not reach out or evangelize. Pray for an awakening and a movement of the Holy Spirit to capture
hearts anew leading to discipleship and evangelism.
